Mark Dwayne Johnson, 25, is charged with injury to a child. According to court documents, Johnson beat his three-year-old son at his apartment in the 12800 block of Dunlap on April 25. When the child's mother, who was at work at the time, returned home, she reportedly noticed injuries on the child and contacted police.
Police say the boy had a black eye, split lip, bloody nose and chest abrasions.
When police contacted Johnson, he told them he was yelling at the child for not telling him that his baby sister had woken up, and that he had struck the child for 'pooping' on himself as he was yelling. He said the boy then fell and must have hit his head on the bathtub.
The child's mother told investigators that Johnson had struck the child before back on December 1, but promised her he wouldn't do it again. Johnson denies the December 1 incident, but did tell police that he has struck the child with a thin belt in the past.
Bail has been set in this case at $10,000.
