Nine-year-old Amsal Dhuka was last seen between 3:30 and 3:45pm getting off the school bus near his apartment complex, the Landmark Apartments in the 14200 block of FM 1464.
Around 4pm Monday, his father contacted deputies after Dhuka didn't come home from school, Lakeview Elementary School in Sugar Land. Deputies contacted Fort Bend ISD police, who then confirmed the boy attended class Monday.
Family members tell deputies this is very unlike Dhuka to not come immediately home.
"We're talking about a nine-year-old little boy," Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Craig Brady said. "Everyone was hoping at first he simply went to some childhood friend's apartment and was playing video games but as time goes by, that seems less likely."
Detectives say Dhuka may have been talking to a man driving a red Toyota Corolla LE model, with possibly a CD hanging from the rearview mirror. It was being driven by a white male, described as partially balding with a thin build. No age estimates were available.
Deputies have already swept his apartment complex in search for the boy but their search yielded no result. They plan on searching it again since many people were not home at the time.
Authorities also are checking with registered sex offenders in the area.
About 60 deputies are already on the scene, and more are on the way from other agencies, including Fort Bend ISD and the FBI. A huge volunteer group from the Muslim community also are showing up to help in the search.
Dhuka is of Indian descent and has black hair. He is 4 feet tall and weighs about 90 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue and white-striped shirt. He was wearing black and gray Sketcher shoes and he was carrying a black and blue backpack. He also was wearing plastic black-framed glasses.
Anyone who has seen a boy matching this description or has any information on this case is asked to call the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office Dispatch at 281-341-4665.
