Man charged in common-law wife's shooting death

HOUSTON

Police say the suspect, James McCarr Robinson, shot 31-year-old Shanelle Cormier at his home in the 4000 block of Liberty at around 8:50am Monday.

Police say Cormier was fleeing from Robinson and ran to a neighbor's house seeking help after sustaining a gunshot wound. Robinson went to the neighbor's house, pointed a pistol at him and then dragged Cormier back to his residence, according to police. Gunshots were then heard from inside the residence.

As SWAT was surrounding the area, Robinson walked out of the house and surrendered without incident. The victim was found deceased inside the residence.

Police say Robinson admitted to fatally shooting and killing her because he was mad at her.

Robinson, 59, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
