Mistrial in case linked to courthouse shooting

BEAUMONT, TX

Bartholomew Granger remains jailed under $4 million bond on nine felony charges, including counts of murder and attempted capital murder.

Those charges stem from the March 14 shooting that killed a 79-year-old woman outside the Jefferson County courthouse in Beaumont. Authorities say the 41-year-old Granger opened fire on at least three family members who either had testified or were going to do so at his sexual assault trial.

In that case, Granger was accused of an assault that occurred in 2003 at his home in Beaumont.

KFDM-TV reports state District Judge John Stevens declared the mistrial Friday due to heightened attention following the shooting.
