Police were responding to a call for help from inside an apartment building when they say Nancy Van Raes, 49, confronted them with a hand-gun.
After retreating out of her apartment, police say she continued to point her gun at them. Fearing for their safety, they shot and killed Van Raes.
Illinois State Police are now investigating the incident.
