HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police are investigating what they believe was a deadly drive-by shooting that ended with a car on its side in a city park.

It happened just before 1 a.m. on Tuesday on Hickock Lane, just off Scott Street, in Houston's south side. The car ended up in Cloverland Park.

According to authorities, they were first notified about a possible car crash, but soon after officers arrived, they realized there was more to the story when they saw the driver had been shot.

"It was the crash at first, which is how our southeast officers received notification for the crash, and upon investigation, they observed a gunshot wound," HPD Det. Lisa Jumonji explained.

Jumonji said they found shell casings in the area, and they believe this was some type of drive-by shooting.

Investigators said they are still in the early stages of piecing together what happened.

At this point, they have not identified the man killed, nor do they have any possible suspect information.
