Authorities suspend search for missing Liberty Co. man

HOUSTON

Dennis Rogers has not been seen or heard from since Thursday night when he was in the woods in the Tarkington area.

Rogers, 54, suffered a serious head injury about four years ago and now has the mental capacity of a nine-year-old.

Roger's daughter spent three hours on the phone with him Thursday, trying to get him out of the woods, but his cell phone died.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office and assisting organizations focused their search in the Tarkington/Cleveland/Plum Grove areas.

Crews had to stop Friday because of weather, but they picked back up again Saturday morning, searching to no avail.

The effort resumed Sunday and was active until 3pm when severe weather forced crews to stop.

They are hoping to do an air search Monday, depending on the weather. Officials said if they get a chopper in the air, they will assess the ground to decide when they will be able to resume a ground search.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Liberty County Sheriff's Office at 936-336-4500.
