Green Line boosts DART light rail line travel

DALLAS, TX

The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday that passengers took 22.3 million trips on the Red, Blue and Green rail lines in 2011. It was the first full year of service for the Green Line, which in December 2010 expanded northwest to Farmers Branch and Carrollton.

DART official Todd Plesko says some riders who had used the Blue and Red lines, which had lower ridership last year, likely moved to the Green Line. Plesko says several thousand express bus riders apparently opted for rail service.

Bus ridership declined 4 percent last year for DART, which operates the state's largest municipal rail system.
