Jossue Daniel Garcia-Lopez is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14. Court documents state on December 23, 2011 the Bible instructor at a Jacinto City church noticed a 12-year-old girl had disappeared from Bible study class. She was found walking from behind the church, adjusting her hair and skirt. The Bible instructor saw a SUV coming around the church and when asked who the driver was, the girl told him he was her "boyfriend."
The Bible instructor notified the girl's mother, who reported the incident to police.
Police say the girl told them that Garcia-Lopez knew she was 12 years old because she told him. According to police, the girl says she had sex with Garcia-Lopez in the back seat of his vehicle on the church grounds.
When police interviewed Garcia-Lopez, investigators say he didn't believe the girl when she told him she was 12 because she looked older. Garcia-Lopez told them that he and the girl met at a Bible study at another church and that he gave the girl his number and they started texting each other.
Police say Garcia-Lopez, 20, admitted to having sex with the 12-year-old girl that night.
Bond has been set at $80,000.
