Child left alone in car outside Spring clothing store

SPRING, TX

Harris County officials say deputies were dispatched to a clothing store in the 2000 block of Interstate 45 after employees there saw a boy alone inside a car. When deputies arrived, they found an 18-month-old boy in a silver car.

Authorities then located the boy's parents, who claimed they didn't know it was illegal to leave children alone. The parents, who are in the United States temporarily on a work permit from Azerbaijan in Eastern Europe, were then advised of the Texas Child Endangerment laws, but no charges will be filed against them.

Deputies say the boy was checked out by Cy-Creek EMS and he was OK.

"We don't want to go through another incident like the one that occurred last Monday night at Baker Cypress," Harris County Sheriff's Office spokesman Deputy Thomas Gillliland said.

Last week, a car thief took off with a two-year-old boy who was left inside a running car while his mother ran inside a west Harris County convenience store to make a quick purchase.

That boy was safely dropped off by the suspect at a hospital in the Heights and reunited with his mother.

Authorities have recovered that car and investigators are checking it for prints so they can locate the suspect.
