UCLA considers allowing coed dorm rooms

LOS ANGELES, CA

Office of Residential Life director Suzanne Seplow says a policy is being researched and could be implemented as soon as next fall.

Seplow says the change would bring the school's housing policies in line with many other universities, including UC Berkeley and Stanford.

Transgender students say living with a member of the gender they're transitioning to can ease stressful living situations.

Seplow stresses that UCLA students would never be forced to room with a student of the opposite gender. Coed living arrangements would only be made to accommodate student requests.
