An officer who tried to join a high speed pursuit lost control and crashed into a mattress store in southeast Houston overnight.

It happened around midnight at the store off the Gulf Freeway near Telephone Road. Investigators say Precinct 8 constables were chasing after someone who wouldn't pull over for a traffic stop.

An east side HPD unit was attempting to provide backup when the officer took the exit ramp too fast and lost control, slamming into the Mattress Firm store.

"He came off the freeway, took the exit ramp and then for some reason he didn't have control of his vehicle and slammed into this building," said Officer Phillip Munoz with the Houston Police Department.

There were a couple of small trees that were knocked down and the building did suffer some damage.

The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect was eventually caught off Old Spanish Trail.
