From June 30 to July 15, members of the public suggested names for the little leaf on a post on the museum's blog. A panel of judges, including HMNS staff and @CorpzFlowrLois herself, selected the top five names from more than 1,500 that were submitted: Clark, Audrey, Delilah, Hermann, and Violet.
The corpse flower is on display in the Cockrell Butterfly Center through Labor Day. In addition, proud parents can adopt the new HMNS corpse flower to help the museum maintain the corpse flower's tropical environment and support the educational science programs. This time last year, Lois the Corpse Flower was raising a stink, and now, it's her brand-new roommate, Audrey. The plant inspired a mass of creative names, from suggestions based on television shows, a comic book couple, an animated stinker, Greek mythology, the space program, literature, world languages, current events, a very hungry musical plant and even Lois herself.
