Five people escape house fire

HOUSTON The fire broke out around 3am Saturday at a home on Fairway at Par Four.

Five adults were in the house at the time. They were awoken by glass windows breaking. They said they thought it was someone trying to break in until they went to the hallway and saw the smoke.

Two of the five adults made it out the front door before the smoke got too strong, but the other three had to climb out a window.

When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from the side of the house. They made a fast attack and got the blaze under control.

The household pets were not as lucky as the human residents, who all escaped with no major injuries. A cat and two birds died in the fire.
