According to the Houston Police Department, the driver of a silver Nissan Maxima was westbound on Robmore at a high rate of speed.
Police said he struck a curd on the south side of the street, and then lost control and skidded sideways into a tree.
The impact was on the driver's side of the vehicle. Officials said the man died immediately. He was 21.
Police said the victim lived just one block from the accident. He was alone in the car.
His identity was not released pending notification of family members.
