A boy has been struck by a car near an elementary school in southwest Houston. According to Alief ISD spokesperson Susan Castro, the nine-year-old boy was on his way home from Mahaney Elementary School when he crossed a street a short ways from the school where there was no crossing guard. He was struck by a car on Synott near Bellaire Gardens.
The driver stopped to assist the boy, who Castro says suffered leg fractures. The boy, who's identity has not been released, was taken to West Houston Medical Center for treatment. He was conscious and alert.
The driver of the car has not been given any citations at this time.
