A stretch of South Texas highway near where a slain U.S. agent grew up has been renamed in his memory. An unveiling was held Wednesday in Brownsville for Jaime J. Zapata Avenue.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement Special Agent Zapata was killed and ICE agent Victor Avila was shot in the leg during the Feb. 15 attack on their vehicle in Mexico. U.S. officials say the roadside ambush, in San Luis Potosi state, was carried out by drug cartel gunmen.

The Brownsville City Commission approved the roadway name change. It's part of Coffee Port Road between South Padre Island Highway and Old Port Isabel Road.
