Texas Appliance Rebate Program nears end

If you are thinking of getting an Energy Star rated appliance and want to get in on the rebates, time is running out. Here's what you have to do.
To get a rebate for Energy Star rated appliances, you have to have the forms postmarked by Wednesday.
This first step is buying a qualifying appliance.
Barbara Christian has that covered.
"So you just might make it in?" we asked Barbara Christian, who is buying an Energy Star appliance.
"Yes, I am going to make it, I am going to purchase today," she replied.
But Christian has a lot of work to do if she hopes to cash in on the rebate program. Now, she must get her new dishwasher installed, and to get an extra rebate, the old machine has to be taken away for recycling.
But stores are more than willing to help.
"If you have the appliance delivered, Lowe's can actually, we recycle them," Doug Nicholls with Lowe's said.
So it is actually kind of a double bonus.
Once the new machine gets to her home, Christian must print out the rebate forms from the state's website and get the installer to fill out the recycling paperwork.
Next, Christian has to get the paperwork in the mail in time to be postmarked by Wednesday.
While time is running out, retailers say the program has helped them sell a lot of energy-efficient appliances.
"It has been a real popular program. People are coming into the store on a regular basis now purchasing appliances because of the rebate that's being offered," Henry Tyler with Home Depot said.
There is still about $1 million left in the rebate program, but applications that are mailed in after Wednesday will not be added to the list.
State officials say it can take about two weeks for the money to be sent to consumers.
The question now, do you still have time to get this done? It depends if the store has your appliance in stock.
If they do, you may still beat the deadline; if they don't, probably not. Also, you cannot buy it online; you have to buy it in person at the store.
