Arrest made in fatal shooting at apartment complex

HOUSTON

On Monday night, witnesses say they saw a man running around the corner of an apartment complex in 13000 block of Bissonnet near Synott and then heard two gunshots. A neighbor at the Beckford Place apartments reported hearing gunshots. She then saw a man run by her and the 22-year-old victim, Dean Hampton, collapsed to the ground. Police say Hampton died from a gunshot wound.

Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators say they received a description of a vehicle used by the suspect to flee the scene. After determining the owner of the vehicle as Antonio Jefferson, investigators went to Jefferson's neighborhood and observed him still in the vehicle. Upon questioning Jefferson, he admitted to shooting Hampton.

Jefferson, 34, has been charged with murder. The bond amount has not yet been established.
