Brothers charged with killing man after bar fight

HOUSTON Amancio Gonzalez, 29, and Jose Luis Gonzalez, 33, are charged with capital murder. Jony Josue Benitez-Lopez, 26, of Houston, was shot and died at the scene.

Police say a witness driving by saw what appeared to be a body lying in the grass just off the roadway and called police. Responding officers found Benitez-Lopez dead from a gunshot wound.

Further investigation led police to a second crime scene at 2200 Harwell. There, investigators found items inside a Ford Explorer belonging to Benitez-Lopez.

The investigation later determined suspect Amancio Gonzalez was seen arguing with the victim at a bar in east Houston. Amancio Gonzalez was then seen leaving the bar with the victim.

Police say Jose Gonzalez followed his brother, Amancio, to 7000 Herbert where Amancio allegedly forced Benitez-Lopez at gunpoint from his vehicle and into the vehicle belonging to the Gonzalez brothers. The brothers then drove Benitez-Lopez to the 5400 block of Caplin where Amancio Gonzalez allegedly shot and killed him.

Police say both brothers were arrested on Wednesday and confessed to their roles in the killing of Benitez-Lopez.
