Police crack down on drunk drivers this holiday weekend

HOUSTON January 1 is one of the busiest days of the year for law enforcement. Officers were out all night looking for impaired drivers and no refusal rules are in effect in Harris County all weekend. Drivers who refuse to take breathalyzer tests will be taken into custody.

"They're going to be taken down to the central location where a mandatory blood or evidentiary search warrant will be issued depending upon whichever problem it is, and blood will be taken by a registered nurse," said Sgt. James Redd with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office.

Six other states have adopted no refusal policies. Those states are Florida, Louisiana, Illinois, Arizona, Utah and Idaho.
