Woodlands teen arrested and charged in 5 fires

THE WOODLANDS, TX On Sunday, October 3, The Woodlands Fire Department responded to five grass and woods fires in the area of Woodlands Parkway and Branch Crossing in a time span of about seven hours. Several witnesses gave the same description of a young teenage male seen at all five of the fires.

One witness observed the young teen set one of the fires and confronted the teen. The young suspect fled before Montgomery County authorities could arrive on scene.

At around 1:45am Monday morning, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office patrol deputies detained Colby Preston Kelly, 17, near the scene of the fifth fire earlier in the afternoon, near the Super Walmart at Woodlands Parkway and FM 2978.

Kelly, a student at The Woodlands High School, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and placed in jail. Kelly was charged with five counts of felony arson.

There were no reported injuries as a result of the fires.
