Harris Co. reports fifth heat-related death of the year

HOUSTON The Medical Examiner's Office says Regina Hammer, 55, died on July 24 in northeast Harris County after being taken to a hospital. She had complained of being hot after her air conditioning unit was broken. Her family said they didn't have the money to get it fixed.

As for the other deaths, Shanice Nibbs, 17, died from hyperthermia at Texas Children's Hospital on July 16.

In June, a 59-year-old Alvin woman was found dead in her home. She also died of hyperthermia.

Two other men in their 50's died from the heat back in May.
