School bus collides with police car

GALVESTON, TX No injuries occurred to any of the 57 student riders, ages 8-13, bus driver or police officer, according to Emergency Medical Service respondents at the scene.

"We are always concerned about the safety of students on and off the bus," said Chief LeeRoy Amador of the Galveston ISD Police Department. "GISD Police responded to the scene and assisted GPD with the investigation. The students were attended to as quickly as possible by EMS and no injuries were determined at the immediate time."

The traffic accident occurred as the GISD bus, Route 109 to Weis Middle School and Early Childhood University, traveled south on 59th Street approaching Stewart Road at 7:10am. A vehicle stopped abruptly in front of a Galveston police unit for a student crossing the street. The bus struck the rear of the stopped police unit.

EMS immediately responded to the scene and conducted an assessment of all students, bus driver and police officer. The EMS team determined there were no injuries. The bus was allowed to continue to school with the students after an investigation that lasted approximately 50 minutes.

Administrators contacted parents of the students.
