Houston man added to Most Wanted Fugitives list
HOUSTON --A Houston man has been added to the Texas Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list at the request of the Houston Police Department. Joel Burt Thompkins, 48, is wanted for capital murder and failure to register as a sex offender. The murder warrant is out of Harris County, and the failure to register warrant is out of Dallas County. Thompkins is wanted in connection with the murder of a woman at the Luxor Apartments on June 4, 2010. The woman, who knew Thompkins, was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher and then stabbed. Her vehicle was stolen, but has since been recovered. Thompkins goes by the nickname "Ghost," which is tattooed on the inside of his right arm. He also uses a large number of aliases. His criminal conviction history includes convictions for assault, robbery, burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and tampering with evidence. The public should not try to apprehend members of the Texas Top 10 Most Wanted, as these criminals are considered dangerous. Authorities are offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
