Overturned tanker causes traffic nightmare

HOUSTON Shortly after 1:30pm, a tanker carrying isopropyl alcohol overturned on the ramp from Highway 59 northbound to the westbound lanes of the I-610 North Loop. The alcohol is highly flammable, so crews had to offloading it to another truck.

In order to offload the material safely and to ensure there is no spillage, the roadways in the vicinity of were closed. All traffic was detoured away from the interchange, and HOV lanes were temporarily opened to the general public, but traffic remained backed for miles.

After a few hours, the load siphoned into another truck, and the wrecked rig was finally removed.
