It happened just after midnight. Precinct 4 authorities say the homeowner was asleep and was jolted out of bed by a banging on the door. Authorities say the homeowner told them he did not know the man outside the house and did not know why he was trying to get inside.
The homeowner told the man to go away and when that didn't happen, the intruder took a more aggressive stance, while the homeowner had his own solution.
"The individual outside the house tried to break the rear window of the door, tried to break through the back door," said Lt. Michael Young with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office.
The intruder was shot once in the stomach. At this time, no charges have been filed against the homeowner who authorities say fired a handgun at the intruder. Authorities also say the man who tried to get into the home appeared to be intoxicated and was mumbling to authorities that he thought he was at his girlfriend's home.
At last check, the alleged intruder is expected to be OK.
