HOUSTON --Federal officials around Southeast Texas are arresting 35 people to culminate a two-year investigation of an illegal drug distribution ring. U.S. Attorney John Bales in Beaumont says officials arrested 28 defendants Tuesday in and around Beaumont, Houston and suburban Houston on charges of possessing and distributing methamphetamine and cocaine. Another 13 arrest warrants have been issued for methamphetamine trafficking. Prosecutors say the drug ring is linked to the large drug cartels operating out of Mexico. Authorities believe the drugs were taken into Texas and routed to other areas across the country. The defendants each could face life in prison if convicted.
