Toddler nearly drowns after falling into apartment pool

HOUSTON Eyewitnesses say Saturday afternoon a dad who was holding his baby and walking with his toddler went to get a soda from a vending machine at the Northwest Crossing Apartments on Pinemont. The boy wandered off, and the man later found his son in the pool. He jumped in with the baby in his arms, and pulled the toddler out of the pool. Neighbors performed CPR on the child.

"They were blowing water, and when he was spitting it out, they were blowing it back in, and you seen him coming out, then they turned him on his side and he started breathing slowly," said Robert Ellis.

The toddler was taken to a hospital. Police say the gate around the pool has a broken latch and that's how the toddler got in the water.

Apartment management says it has signs warning parents about the water.
