Mother convicted for dumping newborn in trash can

HOUSTON Genny Granados was found guilty of felony murder for the February 2008 death of her son. Police say Granados gave birth in a bathroom at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital and threw the baby in a trash can. He was revived, but taken off life support a few days later.

The jury senteneced Granados to 50 years in prison. She faced anywhere from five years to life behind bars.
