HOUSTON --A woman was killed while crossing the street in downtown Houston Thursday morning. It happened just before 11am on Travis and Rusk. Police say a driver in a Mercedes appeared to have run a red light, hitting a woman in her 60's who was crossing the intersection. The victim died at the scene. Police say the victim, who has now been identified as Joyce Levine, had the right of way to cross the street at the time. EMS crews tried to revive her, but were unsuccessful. "Everybody's eyes were just huge, they couldn't believe what they just saw," said eyewitness Monico Cortez. Police say the driver was not impaired and the lights appeared to be working correctly. The street was shut down for an hour or so while police conducted an investigation. So far, no charges have been filed.
