A former high school teacher and coach won't be back in the classroom or on the court, thanks to his improper relationship with a student. Matthew Tillman pleaded guilty to one count of improper relationship with a student and one count of improper communication with a student via text.

Tillman worked as a history teacher and volleyball coach at Spring High School from July 1999 until October 2009, when an investigation began into the alleged improper relationship. Officials with Spring ISD placed him on administrative leave when the felony charges were filed.

Tillman was sentenced to five years probation, deferred adjudication. He must surrender his teaching certificate. He is not allowed to teach, coach or tutor any female under the age of 21.

Additionally, Tillman will serve 10 days in Harris County Jail and do 200 hours of community service. He was taken into custody following the court proceedings.
