Mother and daughter found dead in home

HOUSTON The discovery of the women's bodies was made when family members and police forced open the door of their home today after the family hadn't heard from the two women since Christmas. Inside, police discovered the bodies of a 52-year-old woman and her 85-year-old mother. Family members say the two lived here and the daughter took care of the mother.

A detective says the bodies appear to have been inside the house for at least a month. The family says the women were talking about going to Guatemala at Christmas, but they should have been back by now and that's why they got worried. Police say at this point, the deaths appear to be suspicious.

"We're treating the scene as a homicide scene," explained HPD detective Jason Robles. "We do have the forced entry which we're trying to determine if it was from the family or not, but it will be investigated as a homicide scene."

The women's bodies were found in separate bedrooms.

Several dogs did have to be removed from the house. Investigators say they'd been inside with the women's bodies for at least a month.

The investigation is pending the cause of death to be determined by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office. The women's identities have not been released.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
