Fire destroys house in southwest Houston

HOUSTON It started Saturday afternoon at a home off Belle Park and Corona. Several family members were inside including young children and two elderly people, one of whom was blind and the other disabled. At first, they tried to put out the flames using a garden hose.

"My father heard the smoke detector and he went to see what was going on. He saw smoke coming out, he got my grandparents out the house and the children, my nephews, he took them out the house and told everyone to get out. He tried to put it out while the firemen got here," said Ericka Gonzalez, daughter of the homeowner.

Everyone made it out OK. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
