The City of Houston Municipal Courts alone has thousands of active warrants it is seeking to clear. Municipal Court officials are encouraging defendants to take advantage of one of the options available to settle outstanding warrants. However, no amnesty is being offered in conjunction with the round-up effort.
"We offered an Amnesty last spring which some defendants took advantage of and paid out their cases, yet many others did not, and as a result, still have active cases that can cause them to be arrested," said Presiding Judge Berta Mejia.
Once the warrant period begins on March 6, HPD officers will aggressively target those persons on the warrant list and arrests can take place at any location, including the defendant's home, school or workplace.
Director and Chief Clerk Sahira Abdool emphasized, "We are notifying all defendants that there are numerous options available to assist them in quickly and conveniently taking care of their outstanding warrants."
Notices are being mailed to all defendants with active warrants pending against them.
