Dozens of residents lose homes to apartment fire

HOUSTON The fire broke out around 1am at the apartment complex on Lakeside Forest and Wilcrest. More than 100 firefighters responded to the scene because of how fast the flames were spreading. In all, 24 units burned.

"I was home and I just heard something banging and I went outside and I heard someone saying, 'The apartments were on fire.' So I ran and told my brothers Brandon and Terrell the apartment was on fire," said resident Darron Hill.

The building is a three-story complex. The entire top floor of building 17 was destroyed. The bottom two floors were badly damaged by smoke.

The fire was completely put out quickly. There were no reports of any injuries.

All of the residents forced from their apartments are staying at their leasing office while they wait for assistance.

Arson investigators are on the scene to try to determine a cause of the fire.
