Train hits teen, causes major Amtrak delays

MIDDLE RIVER, MD Authorities say a 14-year-old girl walking to school was hit and killed by a southbound train around 9 a.m. Tuesday in Middle River, just east of Baltimore.

Amtrak spokeswoman Tracy Connell says northbound trains were held at Washington's Union Station for almost two hours while the accident was investigated. A single track was opened around 10:45 a.m., allowing trains to pass through the area slowly and one at a time. Connell says passengers in both directions will continue to experience delays until both tracks are open again.

The girl was hit by a Northeast Regional train from New York to Washington. No one on board was hurt.
