Big changes this week for Houston city government

HOUSTON Police Chief /*Harold Hurtt*/'s last day on the job is Wednesday. He leaves December 30 after nearly six years as head of HPD. Chief Hurtt is expected to name an interim chief, who will run the department until Mayor-elect /*Annise Parker*/ picks a new chief.

Mayor /*Bill White*/'s third term comes to an end Saturday, when Parker is sworn in as Houston's new mayor. Parker's inauguration ceremony will be a week from today, January 4.

A new controller and new city council will also be sworn in then.
