It's commonly referred to as the 'Ike Dike,' and would close at certain points to keep storm surge away during tropical weather. There's a six-county coalition that would study the 'Ike Dike,' with one of those being Harris County.
Commissioners' Court was expected to approve joining the coalition Tuesday morning, but Commissioner Steve Radack said he decided to hold off until the next commissioners court meeting, which is in two weeks, so they could get some questions answered.
If Harris County votes to join the coalition, the coalition will then ask the state for anywhere between $3 million and $5 million to commission a study to look into the feasibility of the 'Ike Dike.'
If the 'Ike Dike' ever moves forward, it would need federal money because it would cost many millions of dollars to build.
