Sugar Land, Bellaire getting in holiday spirit

Many communities outside of Houston are getting in the holiday spirit. The city of Sugar Land is hosting its annual Christmas tree lighting tonight. The event starts at 5pm and lasts until 8pm at the Sugar Land Town Square. The actual lighting of the city's 40-foot tree will happen after dark. The night will be capped off with a visit by Santa Claus himself.

Old St. Nick is also expected to make a stop in Bellaire this evening. The city is holding its annual Holiday in the Park tonight. It runs from 6pm until 8:30pm in Bellaire Town Square.

Activities include pony and train rides, a petting zoo, games and food. There will even be a few players from the Houston Aeros to join in on the food.

And speaking of holidays, tomorrow is your chance to give back to the community during the annual ABC13 Share your Holidays food drive. This year's main collection site will be at the Garden Center in Hermann Park.

Every year, Houstonians donate thousands of pounds of food to resupply the city's food banks. Many others simply donate cash to the good cause.

The drive runs from 6am tomorrow morning until 6pm in the evening. You can check here to see where to drop off your non-perishable goods.
