Hundreds hired at Sam Houston Race Park

HOUSTON They were hired on the spot at a job fair at the race park in northwest Harris County on Saturday. The thoroughbred racing season starts next month and the race park needs seasonal workers in customer service. The park says 400 people showed up for 250 positions.

"We really weren't sure what to expect with the job market the way that it is now and having it on Halloween. But it's been, like I said, extremely successful. We're very pleased," said Raenetta Kolajajak, Human Resources Director of Sam Houston Race Park.

Applicants were interviewed and hired the same day and the race park filled all the positions Saturday. They'll spend the next few weeks in orientation. The race season is from November to April.
