Man arrested in bizarre blood cross case

EDCOUCH, TX Ramiro Ruiz Jr. was in the Hidalgo County Jail on Friday on aggravated assault charges. Bail was $150,000. A jail officer, who declined to give his name to The Associated Press, said it was not immediately clear if the 33-year-old inmate had an attorney. The children were not harmed.

Investigators believe Ruiz last month pulled a knife on his spouse, cut himself and drew crosses on his children's foreheads with his blood.

The McAllen Monitor reports Ruiz, already jailed on unrelated counts, was charged Wednesday over allegedly threatening his wife during the incident.

If convicted, Ruiz could face up to 20 years in prison.
