Recycling efforts resume in Galveston

GALVESTON, TX The city's recycling center on 61st Street has repaired the machines used to compact and package the items. Those machines were damaged during Hurricane Ike. FEMA provided 90 percent of the funds used to buy new machines.

City staff spent last week installing and testing the new machinery before making the announcement to start recycling again.

This comes as the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling Summit kicked off in Galveston yesterday.
