Firefighters injured in apt. blaze

HOUSTON Firefighters were called to the scene at Alabama and Stanford just after 5pm Friday. They saw flames coming from the building when they arrived, which hampered search efforts. Additionally, one firefighter fell off a ladder and another had to be treated for heat exhaustion.

Firefighters are not sure what started the blaze, but one resident says lightning could be responsible.

"Getting toward the back here the trees in the back are charred," explained resident Karen Fritschu. "It looks like it might have been a random lightning strike that hit the trees and might have started the whole thing. Other than that I really don't know what it could have been."

The eight unit apartment complex is a total loss.
