Gov. Perry presses Hutchison on tax returns

AUSTIN, TX Perry's remarks come in his first public appearance since Hutchison formally announced her 2010 Republican primary bid to unseat him.

His aides called on her to release her tax returns.

The Hutchison campaign fired back, saying Perry had resorted to "sleazy personal attacks" and promising the senator would release her returns shortly.

As the Perry campaign urged Hutchison to release financial records, his state office provided the governor's 2008 tax return.

Those records show Perry and his wife, Anita, reported an adjusted gross income of $277,667 last year while paying $62,348 in taxes.

A Hutchison aide said she will release her tax returns "within the week."
