Senate drops Kent impeachment efforts

July 22, 2009 2:49:56 PM PDT
The Senate has officially dropped its efforts to impeach former Federal Judge Samuel B. Kent. Kent is currently serving a 33-month sentence in prison for lying to investigators about sexually assaulting two female employees.

The Senate was working to impeach Kent after he announced he would resign his post next year, thereby enabling him to still receive his $174,000 salary.

Kent changed his resignation to June 30 of this year and is no longer being paid or receiving benefits.
