Parents in North Forest ISD demand answers

HOUSTON They met with local politicians and Superintendent Adrain Johnson for a meeting in northeast Houston Saturday. One parent told us she didn't think anything was accomplished, and no one really knows what's going on in the district.

She faulted the state for taking discipline away from teachers.

"Discipline is one thing they cannot take away in order to get these kids," said that parent. "The children actually rule the school system, more or less."

Parents also complained some schools didn't have air conditioning for months. They say the heat affected teachers and students and led to a drop in TAKS test scores.

The district's latest financial scandal was exposed by 13 Undercover's Wayne Dolcefino last year. Wayne uncovered documents which revealed former special education Director Ruth Watson used federal grant money to award contracts to her own relatives. And she gave those family members more money than the contracts called for.

Last fall, North Forest's school board voted not to renew Watson's contract.
