'Operation Falcon' nabs 1,500 fugitives in Houston

HOUSTON The U.S. Marshals Service staged 'Operation Falcon 2009' during June with the help of numerous local law agencies. Officers arrested more than 35,000 violent criminals, gang members and sex offenders. The month-long operation led to the arrest of 1,469 fugitives in the Houston area.

"It has set the record for the largest number of violent criminals to be captured in a thirty-day period. In fact, I think it can be called the largest law enforcement operation ever conducted in our history," said U.S. Marshal Elizabeth Saenz.

During Operation Falcon, officers seized more than $342,000, 582 firearms, 38 vehicles and nearly 5,300 pounds of narcotics. During six of the operations, law officers have captured more than 91,000 dangerous fugitive felons nationwide.
