Sugar Land man loses appeal

June 24, 2009 5:40:27 PM PDT
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the conviction and death sentence for Bart Whitaker, who hired a hit man to kill his family. Whitaker said his death sentence was not proper, because the court record does not include an offer he made to prosecutors. Whitaker said he would accept responsibility for the killings if prosecutors would remove the death penalty option, to spare his family the ordeal of a trial.

Whitaker hired a hit man who killed his mother and brother, and wounded his father, at their Sugar Land home.
