Witness killed trying to stop thief

Police are investigating a capital murder case in northeast Houston.Around 12:45pm, someone stole some windows from a homeowner's yard. The owner ran after the suspect and an eyewitness joined the chase. As they came to a METRO bus stop in front of an auto shop on Cavalcade, the suspect pulled a knife and pair of shears. He lunged, stabbing the witness. That victim was driven to LBJ Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The capital murder call came in to HPD homicide at 3:15pm. Police have recovered two weapons at the scene -- the knife and some shears.

Officers arrested a man matching the suspect's description a few hours later just blocks from the stabbing scene.

Police interviewed that man and call him their number one suspect in the case.
